Thankful Thursday

I'm not very good and posting a thankful Thursday every week, or even every month. But I guarantee you that even if I'm not sharing with you what I'm thankful for, I'm still finding a way to be thankful :)

Five months

I really can't believe that we're here already, five months old. It really does just feel like yesterday that we came home from the hospital with our new son. Every month he grows and develops- and becomes so much more fun! 

Canaan has such a little personality now, and it really makes me laugh sometimes. He has recently just found his tongue, and really enjoys using it to blabber some jibberish (although sometimes I swear he is saying dada!) or blow bubbles. It really is the cutest thing. He rolls everywhere now, including off the couch (oops, I guess we aren't leaving him alone on furniture anymore!) and today we found him playing with the plugged in TV wire- I guess baby proofing this house with have to happen sooner rather than later! He's been teething a little bit, and at this point we think he's getting his eye teeth first, hello baby fangs! His little giggle is so contagious, and well he laughs at my jokes so it's pretty flattering ;) 

It's hard to remember what life was like without him, and I wouldn't trade these past five months for anything! He is such a gift, and Michael and I are so thankful.

Missions,Funerals and Sleep

This past weekend was a humdinger! (I can't believe I just said that) Michael and I headed to Millar for their annual Missions Conference. It is always such a highlight of my year, and because we didn't get to go last year I was really looking forward to it. The Friday morning that we left we got news that Michael's Grandma Bergen had passed away. It wasn't a shock, she had been in the hospital for quite some time. We knew that the funeral wouldn't be until early the following week so we decided to go to Saskatchewan anyways.
We arrived at Millar just in time for supper, and with a huge list of people we wanted to see and connect with. These kinds of weekends are always so busy and full of interacting with others. We did get a good chance to connect with a lot of people, although for some of them we wish we could of connected more! The speaker for the weekend was my old pastor from when I lived in Vernon, and the Pastor that married us. The sessions were really good, and quite eye opening for me. I have felt called to missions my whole life, but am only realizing now that i'm quite comfortable where I am. Canada is safe. I like safe. I don't think I'm at the point anymore where I could say "Here I am Lord, send me" at least to anywhere other than Canada. Although, Canada does need Jesus too- on a huge scale.  So i'm just mulling over a lot of the things I learned not only about missions and this worlds need for a Saviour, but also about myself.
The viewing for Michael's Grandma was set for Sunday night, and the funeral Monday. So bright and early Sunday morning we set for home. I am so thankful that at this age Canaan is such a good traveler. Even in his short 4 months of life we have done a lot of time in a vehicle! We arrived home around 2pm, quickly changed and repacked all of our stuff and headed to Morden. Although the circumstances weren't ideal, it was such a great opportunity to reconnect and even meet all of Michael's extended family. Everyone took the time and made it out for the funeral. On Sunday night we had a great time of remembering Grandma and reminiscing about her. She was such a great lady, even though I didn't get the privilege of knowing her for a long time. She always said what was on her mind! The very first time I met her, I was visiting Manitoba for the first time; Michael and I had only been dating about 2 months. He wanted me to meet his Bergen grandparents, so one day he took me to Morden to meet them. We met Grandma in her usual restaurant where she met with her friends daily for coffee. One of the first things she asked me was: "Are you engaged yet?" I had no idea what to say. No, we weren't engaged, we had only begun getting to know each other! Her response: "well don't you like him? You should get married!" I laughed. It was such a good introduction into who Grandma was, and I'm thankful that 2 years later I took her advice ;)
Grandma loved her family immensely, and I know that she would of been so happy to see all of us together again enjoying each others company.
After such a weekend we were exhausted. Michael went straight back to work, so I know he hasn't quite caught up on his sleep again. Canaan and I have been taking advantage of afternoon naps!

In other news, I BOUGHT A CAMERA!! I'm pretty excited about it! I made the effort this past weekend to take lots of pictures, but unfortunately the new technology of the camera isn't compatible with my ancient macbook. So hopefully we will be doing some updates in the near future, and I can share some of those with you! AND, Canaan rolled over! That was a huge thing that also happened this weekend. He's just a moving now, wont' be long before I wont be able to catch up to him. (He can stop growing up now!)

Catching up, welcome 2015!

I didn't get a chance to post a 10 on 10 this month. We had just arrived home from BC, and Baby C is sick! So the tenth included a lot of sleeping, a little eating, and visiting Grandma and Grandpas house for supper.

I was a little discouraged this Christmas with taking pictures. My camera is getting really old, and is just not working the way its supposed to. But, new cameras are expensive! So, until I can save up I have to do with what I have! Once I got over myself a bit, I tried to capture all the moments I could. I mean it was Canaan's first Christmas...and that only happens once!

It was such a good holiday. I really loved hanging out with my family, and reconnecting with them. Being apart isn't easy, but we make it work. Canaan did fantastic on the flight there, and despite his sickness he did great on the way home too. Thank you Jesus! I was one nervous mama flying by myself with a little one. But, the air hostesses were so helpful, and I splurged a little and bought seats at the front of the plane for a little extra room...which I think really helped!

It is however really good to come home. Mostly just because we missed Daddy, but its so good to sleep in my own bed and get into some sort of a routine again! Here are some of my favorite shots I took this holiday season :)

Four Months Old

Mr. Canaan is four months old today. He just enjoyed his first Christmas, and got

To celebrate with both sides of the family. Which was such a wonderful blessing! He did absolutley fantastic on the two plane rides, so far he travels like a champ! Hopefully when him and I head back to Manitoba without daddy he will do the same thing ;)

Canaan likes too:

-talk and grunt. He's always making some kind of noise.

-listen to people sing. It calms him right down!

-watch us eat

-move! He's become a shuffler

-giggle when he gets tickled

-play in the bath!

-reach and play with his toys

-sleep! 

He's getting so big. I don't know how much he weighs, but he's getting heavy! He's so good at entertaining himself-it's fun to watch! He got to open lots of presents this Christmas, even though he didn't know what was going on he seemed to enjoy himself! 

We're having a great time in BC. Really enjoying spending time with family, Canaan really loves his uncles :)

  

Little man we love you so much. I thank God for you so often. And pray that I won't take for granted any of our time together. 

 

 

Thankful Thursday

1. Electricity. We were without it yesterday for about 4 hours. It's crazy how much we rely on the stuff. Without it our house wasn't warm, I couldn't flush the toilet, turn lights on etc. once it came back on I couldn't help but be thankful for it, because I really did miss it! 

2. Clean water. Today our taps are running this gross looking brown water. It probably won't stay that way for long, and is probably just some sedament in our pipes. But I'm thankful that usually every day we have clean water to shower in, cook with, drink and that we have it in abundance!!

3. Airplanes. In one week an airplane will take my little family and I to BC for Christmas. Thank you airplane! 

4. Disposable diapers. I'm thankful that there is one less thing I have to wash! I have a puker, I'm always doing laundry! 

5. Health. We take it for granted! I'm thankful today that we are getting over colds, and that a cold is all we had. 

6. This mild winter we're having. I do miss the abundance of snow, we could have more of that. But I am enjoying the milder temperatures.

7. The frost that's been hanging around for a few days. The trees are beautiful! I don't get outside a whole lot this time of year with a little one, but I love being able to look outside and see the beauty still! 

8. Photography. I really do enjoy using my camera. And I love that I can capture memories of my little guy and not just have to commit them to memory. 

9. Salt water spray and nose syringes. I know gross, right? But without them I would of had a grumpier little boy on my hands! I'm also thankful that eventually little ones learn to blow there noses😊. 

10. Being able to buy gifts for people. I love giving gifts. Having to think about what that person would want, searching for it, seeing there face when they receive it. I'm thankful that we have the luxury to purchase gifts. I know gifts don't have to be bought, but it's nice to be able to do that every once in a while!

Once again all these photos are from my phone. Boo, I know. This season is always so busy, and I realized today that we have something happening every single day this week- all they way to next week! I was a little stressed today, there's lots to do. But it all got done. At least the stuff on today's list :) I did end the day not feeling well and having to cancel my evening plans, I think a nice hot bath might be on the menu for the rest of my

Evening. 

1.breakfast. Cinnamon toast crunch, yes please. 

2. Mailing Christmas letters was on today's agenda. Done. 

3. Home made turtles, Christmas baking has commenced.

4. Front door selfie. we left the house today to run errands. I was in real clothes, and make up. It had to be documented. 

5. Beautiful day, in the pluses! 

6. Fun leggings. I'm usually not this adenterous with my clothing, but there so comfy.

7. Nap time in the car seat.

8. Snack time. He's very non chalant about his eating. 

9.  Canaan is beginning to play with his toys, it's so fun to watch him!
